Śabda No. 4

श्रद्धाśraddhā

It means faith.

“Each person consists of faith; whatever their faith is, that is who they are.”

Śraddhā means faith. The Gītā goes further: each person is made of faith, and whatever their faith is, that is who they are.

Ask the Gītā your own question.

Arjuna asked his. Samvāda answers yours with the Gītā's own verses.

Samvāda is software, an AI companion tuned to the Bhagavad Gītā. It is not a person. It answers from the verse and shows you which one, and it never pretends to be Kṛṣṇa.

Going deeper

Chapter 17 asks what a person's faith is made of. 17.2 says that the faith of embodied beings is threefold, born of their own nature and made of sattva, rajas and tamas. 17.3 then says that everyone's faith follows their inner makeup: each person is made of faith, and whatever their faith is, that is who they are. 17.4 shows what that looks like: sattvic people worship the gods, rajasic people worship yakṣas and rākṣasas, and the others, the tamasic, worship the departed and hosts of spirits. So śraddhā is more than belief on request. It is the direction in which a person's whole nature leans, and the Gītā reads a person by what they trust. See chapter 17, what the Gītā says about faith and what the Gītā says about the self.
