How Vāṇi renders the Gītā

Every verse here is built from separate parts. This page says what each part is, so you can tell the scripture from Vāṇi's reading of it.

What Vāṇi is

Vāṇi is an iPhone app that holds all 700 verses of the Bhagavad Gītā, free forever, with a companion that answers from the verse and shows which one.

This website carries every verse and the material around it. The app adds Samvāda, Sādhanā, a live Panchang and guided walks.

The text

The Gītā here is 18 chapters and 700 verses. Each verse is numbered by chapter and verse, so 2.47 is Chapter 2, verse 47. Chapter 13 has 34 verses, the numbering used by standard editions.

Each verse page shows the verse as it is held in Vāṇi's corpus. The site does not reword, shorten or paraphrase any of it: the Sanskrit, the transliteration, the translation and the rendering are shown exactly as stored.

The parts of a verse page

Sanskrit
The verse in Devanagari.
Transliteration
The same Sanskrit in roman letters with diacritics, so that it can be read aloud.
Translation
A plain English translation. It is a separate field from Vāṇi's rendering and is labelled as the translation.
Vāṇi's rendering
A short English line for the verse, written in one house voice: a wise elder's, plain, and faithful to what the Sanskrit claims. Each rendering began as a draft made with the help of AI software. Each is now being hand-authored and checked against its Sanskrit, verse by verse.
Word by word, commentary and common questions
These appear on a verse page only once they have been approved. A verse without approved material shows none of them, and nothing is written to fill the gap. They are labelled as commentary, so they are never mistaken for the verse.
Chapter summaries and topic pages
A chapter summary or a topic introduction is shown only when it has been approved. Each topic page lists the verses it cites, and each verse links to its own page.

On every verse page the scripture comes first. Vāṇi's reading of it comes after, under its own heading.

Samvāda

Samvāda is software, an AI companion tuned to the Bhagavad Gītā. It is not a person. It answers from the verse and shows you which one, and it never pretends to be Kṛṣṇa.

Vāṇi does not run a model of its own. What you write to Samvāda is sent to a third-party AI processing provider to generate a reply, and Vāṇi does not sell your data. The Privacy Policy says what happens to your words. If Vāṇi senses danger, trained helplines come first.

Who makes Vāṇi

Vāṇi is made by Dhawal Damania, its founder, in Sydney. It is a dad-and-son project: his son Evaan is its first tester. The story of why it exists is on the About page.
