Frequently asked
What does Bhagavad Gita Chapter 8 Verse 27 mean?
It closes the teaching on the two paths of departure. One who truly knows them is not thrown by them — and the instruction that follows is not about dying well but about living joined. Krishna tells Arjuna to be steady in yoga at all hours, because the hour that matters is never announced in advance.
What does naite sriti partha janan yogi muhyati kashchana mean?
No yogī who knows these two roads is bewildered. The knowing is not information about the afterlife; it is the settledness of someone who has stopped bargaining with the moment of leaving. Krishna names Arjuna twice in this verse, as if to hold him still while the point lands.
Why does Krishna say be joined in yoga at all times?
Because a practice kept for special hours will not be there in the unexpected one. Sarveṣu kāleṣu — all times. Krishna is removing the idea of a final performance. What you return to habitually is what will hold you when nothing is prepared and nothing is chosen.
Do I have to understand the two paths to practice this verse?
No. The verse hands you the instruction, not the map. Knowing the roads only produces this: stop arranging your leaving and attend to your joining. If the metaphysics stays cloudy, the practice does not. Be steady now, in this hour, and the rest is Krishna's to carry.

Commentary
Krishna has just laid out two roads leaving the body — one of light, one of smoke. Then he does something unexpected. He does not tell Arjuna to choose the bright road when the time comes. He says: be joined now, at every hour. The last hour arrives unannounced; no one gets to rehearse it. What you are in the middle of is what you will be in at the end. So a teaching about death quietly becomes a teaching about this afternoon. Not confused, Krishna says — because the yogī stopped waiting for a special moment and made every moment the one.
