Commentary

Undivided is the whole condition. Krishna has just described the unmanifest, the imperishable, the path from which none return — and now names what reaches it. Not austerity. Not scholarship. Love that is not split. Ananyā means no other: not that you love Krishna more than other things, but that the loving has stopped dividing itself. And notice where he is. In whom all beings live, by whom all this is filled — you are not travelling toward a distant person. You are already inside him. What undivided love crosses is not distance. It is the habit of looking elsewhere.

Frequently asked

What does Bhagavad Gita Chapter 8 Verse 22 mean?
It names the one way to the highest puruṣa: bhakti that is ananyā, undivided. The same verse says all beings dwell within him and all this is pervaded by him. So the reaching is not a crossing of space. It is love ceasing to scatter itself among many objects.
What does purushah sa parah partha bhaktya labhyas tvananyaya mean?
That supreme person, Krishna tells Arjuna, is reached by devotion alone — devotion with no second object. The word tu is quiet but firm: by this, and by this. Not by force of effort, not by cleverness of argument. By a love that has nothing else running beside it.
What is ananya bhakti and how is it different from ordinary devotion?
Ordinary devotion still keeps other accounts open — a little for gain, a little for safety, a little for the outcome. Ananyā bhakti has closed those accounts. It is not more intense feeling; it is undivided attention. You can test it by noticing what you turn to when the prayer does not work.
If all beings are already inside Krishna, why is devotion needed at all?
Because being inside and knowing it are not the same. The fish is in water and still searches. Nothing needs to be built or travelled to; only the divided looking has to end. Devotion does not fetch Krishna from far away. It stops you from looking past him.
